Title
Dans le Sud-Ouest du Rwanda, la zone contrôlée par les militaires français, on revient à un semblant de vie normale
Abstract
- International news now: the situation in Rwanda first. Today we're talking politics and compromise. The RPF forces have asked a moderate representative of the Hutu majority to form a new government of national unity, simply excluding the perpetrators of this massacre.
- While waiting for this political approach to materialize, in the southwest of the country, the area controlled by the French military, life is returning to a semblance of normalcy, with, for example, a first wedding celebrated yesterday [July 6]. There hadn't been one for a very long time.
- The submachine gun isn't far away, but the mayor no longer carries it slung over his shoulder. Amid the refugee camps, the ceremony between these two Hutu will therefore take place as naturally as possible, beneath a photo of the late President Habyarimana, along with the regime's old concerns: AIDS and overpopulation. The mayor: "We have a letter from the prefect stating that we must warn the population that no one can flee. The population must remain calm and at ease because the French are here".
