Abstract
- Since the start of the war in Rwanda, 800,000 people have escaped the massacres and have taken refuge in camps. They are always afraid of being attacked again.
- It is to protect these men, women and children that the French soldiers are here. However, nine days after the start of Operation Turquoise, we realize that the derisory number of French soldiers on the ground cannot ensure this mission. So far, 300 men are on Rwandan territory. Paris does not intend to increase its staff there.
- This morning a UN mission arrived from Goma to meet the commander of Operation Turquoise. General Dallaire, in charge of forming an interposition force, said he has not yet managed to find the necessary equipment but hopes to be ready on July 13.
- By arriving here first, France hoped to rally more countries to this operation. But the international community has still not answered the call. The only hope that remains is that the French presence will dissuade everyone from continuing the massacres of innocent people.
