Abstract
- In Rwanda the situation is very tense this morning, especially in Kigali where three mortar shells fired by rebel forces fell on the market, killing 16 people.
- The French soldiers have started to deploy to the Kibuye region, on the shores of Lake Kivu. They will ensure the protection of the Tutsi refugees as do these legionaries who reached them last night [July, 1st] less than 10 kilometers from the RPF forces.
- 138 men of the second infantry regiment crossed the Zairian border in a convoy. The mission is to relieve the parachute troops who must advance towards the north of the country.
- The French pass the roadblocks to greet the authorities and explain the change of troops to them. The paratroopers and legionaries want to reassure the population and their prefect, explaining that security will be maintained.
- On the road, we train young recruits armed with sticks who must soon leave for the front.
- Edouard Balladur has been in Poland since yesterday [July 1]. The Prime Minister went last night, along with Simone Veil, to the Auschwitz camp where more than a million Jews perished during the last war.
