Abstract
- Tension is rising in Rwanda: heavy fighting has taken place in Kigali. The RPF and Hutu extremists are increasingly annoyed by the French intervention.
- Gradually Operation Turquoise is making its nest in Rwanda. But this French military and humanitarian presence disturbs the RPF, the rebels, but also the most extremist Hutu.
- Somewhere under the shells of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, the Red Cross hospital in Kigali. 35 wounded waited yesterday [June 26] to be evacuated on board trucks. Impossible because the fighting is getting worse. We operate more now than children.
- To take stock of the massacres, the soldiers of Operation Turquoise entered the south-west of the country. They have to go inland. The convoy of paratroopers is sometimes greeted with applause.
- Militiamen, with knives and firearms, sometimes set up roadblocks. But the RPF seems not to carry out its threats, even if the tension is high as around Kibuye in the west of the country.
- The system must gradually reach 2,500 men. 1,100 arrived, mostly still stationed at the Rwanda-Zaire border.
- A pivotal day before the humanitarian component is set up and the first members of the staff arrive. On board the plane tomorrow [June 28] there will be 40 tons of medicine and food.
