- The situation in Rwanda: French troops reinforce their positions in Gikongoro. Opposite the troops of the Rwandan Patriotic Front stopped their progress 10 kilometers away. The RPF which announces its intention to soon form a government of national unity with a moderate Hutu at its head.
- They are greeted with cheers: it is the rebels of the Rwandan Patriotic Front who have taken Kigali, the capital. They are now about ten kilometers from the Humanitarian Security Zone established by the French forces. The RPF commander is trying to calm things down. "We will not seek confrontation," he declared.
- President Mitterrand visiting South Africa reaffirmed the humanitarian nature of the French presence. François Mitterrand: "France does not intend to carry out a military operation in Rwanda against anyone".
- Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the Secretary General of the United Nations, approves this French project for a safe humanitarian zone. But the choice of France also arouses opposition: Valéry Giscard d'Estaing believes in particular that we have gone too far in the French intervention and that we must return to the border as at the start. France still plans to send 2,500 men.
