Abstract
- The situation is still just as dramatic and violent in Rwanda. Foreigners are fleeing since 525 French people were evacuated from Rwanda this weekend. The first 43 of them landed in Roissy yesterday evening [April 10], relieved to have left a country plagued by a terribly deadly ethnic war.
- The emotion and the joy of finding his family. It's midnight in the flag of honor at Roissy airport, the first 48 French nationals evacuated from Rwanda have just arrived, all very tired but relieved. A French national: "There were just bombardments which bothered us a little, which scared the children, but everything was going very well. And then we returned".
- A next plane from Bangui or Bujumbura should arrive Tuesday morning [April 12] at Roissy airport. 230 other nationals should in turn return to France.
- In Kigali, capital of Rwanda, clashes and massacres between rival ethnic groups continue. Hutu and Tutsi continue to kill each other. According to the testimonies of civilians, the inter-ethnic clashes in Rwanda would have reached a tragic dimension, with several tens of thousands of victims.
- Face to face, the regular forces to which the provisional government, installed after the death of President Habyarimana, asks to silence any revolt. And on the other side, the rebels of the Patriotic Front of Rwanda decided to overthrow the authority in place. Rebels who are said to number 20,000, ready to march on the capital Kigali to, they say, put an end to the carnage perpetrated by the soldiers of the government troops.
- Kigali is not the only region plagued by clashes. Mortar and automatic weapon fire was heard 50 kilometers north of the town.
- According to some humanitarian organizations, the morgues are overwhelmed by the arrival of bodies of men killed with machetes and many mass graves have been improvised to bury the corpses that litter the streets.
