Title
Le FPR, désormais maître du pays, s'est choisi hier [6 juillet] un Premier ministre, un Hutu modéré
Abstract
- In Rwanda, the military situation is stabilizing and the political situation is improving. The RPF, now master of the country, chose a Prime Minister yesterday [July 6], a moderate Hutu.
- This soldier is the RPF's strongman. Until now, he remained hidden. Kigali is now in his hands. The situation is calming down, so the man is coming out into the open. His name is Paul Kagame, and he is the RPF Chief of Staff.
- To journalists, he just announced the appointment of the Prime Minister responsible for forming a government of national unity. This appointment marks the first step toward political normalization because the person chosen is a moderate Hutu.
- Meanwhile, the UN gave the green light to the security zone. The RPF reacted favorably, with some reservations. Claude Dusaïdi, RPF official at the UN: "The security zone must occupy only a small portion of territory. And all soldiers, all militias, must also be disarmed".
- The latest sign of détente: the RPF has just announced a cessation of fighting. The situation in Rwanda is therefore calming down.
- Two journalists were injured in Rwanda near Butare: a photographer from the Sipa agency, José Nicolas. And Isabelle Staes, special correspondent for France 2. They should be repatriated to Paris very soon.
