Abstract
In the history of genocide, the phases of classification and dehumanization
play an essential role before the extermination itself. In this study, we are interested
in the dehumanization of Tutsi women, as a phase of indoctrination preparatory to
their extermination. The corpus consists of excerpts from the media and political
discourses of the period 1990-1994. Qualitative content analysis is the main working
method. Initially, a lexicological reading combined with a thematic approach to the
corpus of anti-Tutsi propaganda from 1990 to 1994 managed to detect the facts that
carry the dehumanization inflicted on Tutsi women through the propaganda of this
period. In a second step, the analysis made an analysis of the content of the
representations to apprehend and deconstruct them and explain the concepts
recovered by the propaganda to demonize the Tutsi woman or even predispose her
to her extermination. Mastering the process of dehumanization should make it
possible to prevent and mitigate the crimes of genocide as a prelude to the violence
inflicted on Tutsi women between 1990 and 1994.
