The similarity between these events of 1963 in Togo and those of 1994 in Rwanda remains striking. An African country is in danger of leaving the zone of French influence, the “pré-carré”. The President is no longer deemed reliable. In Paris, geopolitical realism rules. Foccart intervened in Rwanda in 1994 if only through the intervention of Bob Denard. The episode of Olympio taking refuge at the United States Embassy evokes that of Prime Minister Agathe Uwilingiyimana trying to take refuge with her neighbor Joyce Leader, number 2 of the American Embassy, then at the UNDP, this at a few hundred meters from the French embassy where will take refuge the ministers who will order the genocide of the Tutsi, accused of having assassinated their President, whom we are assured was the great friend of François Mitterrand. In this case from 1994, it is not just archives but a black box from an airplane and debris from missiles which, probably, took the direction of Paris. It is also about the execution of more than a million innocent people.
