Abstract
- In Rwanda a new government was sworn in Kigali. The Rwandan Patriotic Front takes the lion's share, with no less than eight ministers, including the first, Faustin Twagiramungu, and the President, Pastor Bizimungu.
- At the same time, new exodus in the security zone established by France. A total of 500,000 refugees arrived on the spot. The French government criticizes its partners in the Western European Union for not having yet satisfied the request for logistical assistance.
- Hell might look like Mugunga camp. Not just because of the smoke that poisons the air or the promiscuity of more than 20,000 people crammed on top of each other. But above all because of the volcanic soil where nothing grows. This is one of the places that the Zairians offered to the High Commissioner for Refugees to relieve Goma. What we fear most are epidemics.
- Late and blocked by huge logistical problems in a country lacking everything, aid is arriving in small quantities. While water supply problems multiply all risks, Mugunga already has its first deaths.
- The Quai d'Orsay has let it be known that France will not ask the UN for the extension of its mission in Rwanda.
