Abstract
- Five dead yesterday [June 27] in Kigali in the capital where the health situation is catastrophic. At the same time, the French soldiers this morning evacuated some forty nuns who had been living in permanent danger since the start of the civil war.
- This morning 43 nuns were evacuated by the French helicopters of Operation Turquoise. They belonged to the community of charity of Namur, settled in Kibuye in Rwanda on the eastern shore of Lake Kivu.
- These nuns preferred to leave the region although the French soldiers are now present throughout this area and no incident has taken place for more than a week.
- French soldiers increase patrols in western Rwanda, carefully avoiding any contact with the RPF. The armored cars remain in Zaire, they are not needed for the moment.
- The local and international Red Cross and the population take care of the displaced persons. Operation Turquoise will nevertheless be strengthened: 1,000 additional men will continue to be sent to Zaire today.
