Abstract
- At the United Nations, Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali asked the Security Council to accept the French proposal for a military-humanitarian intervention in Rwanda. The United Nations will not be able to send troops to this country for three months.
- The French intervention is therefore set up and organized from Bangui. The most likely scenario would be simultaneous action on two axes from eastern Zaire for Hutu refugees as well as Tutsi refugees. There are tens of thousands of refugees there in both cases, all at risk of being massacred by one or the other camp. This shows how time is running out.
- The staff is expected tomorrow [June 21] in the Central African capital.
- Jacques Chirac: "This genocide is unimaginable. And so I totally approve of the initiative of a humanitarian action tending to separate people who are killing each other. We can't let these people slaughter each other like this".
