Abstract
- The horrible war continues in Rwanda. The last two White Fathers from Rwanda returned to France, they saw 180 people massacred who had taken refuge with them.
- When last Friday [June 10] Hutu militiamen presented themselves in front of a religious mission in Kigali on the pretext of evacuating civilians to safety, the 180 refugees who were trying to protect themselves knew that they were living their last hour. They were kidnapped before the very eyes of Fathers Mayer and Blanchard. Father Mayer was even injured.
- Father Henri Blanchard: "They attacked, they shot at the doors, they fired a tear gas canister into the house. The children were suffocating. They forced people into a truck. We know that there is a dozen of them were killed because we saw them afterwards". No news from the others since. Unfortunately, there is little doubt about their fate.
- The two men returned to France to witness the daily horror in an abandoned country. Father Henri Blanchard: "We must try to bear witness, to make people move. To speak about this terrible suffering of people! And on both sides! This is what we would like to say and that we be helped to say and to shout: that we must come to the aid of this country. And that politicians on both sides come to understand that there is no solution without dialogue and without giving up something of oneself".
