Abstract
- 31 injured children in Rwanda arrived this morning in Orly. It was the Médecins du Monde association which helped their repatriation. The Minister of Health, Philippe Douste-Blazy, and Bernard Kouchner were present at the airport.
- All these children come from two localities located 30 kilometers from Kigali: all are bruised in their flesh, some have broken limbs or partially amputated with machetes. Children weakened by the trauma of war because they have experienced the horror of massacres.
- Bernard Granjon, president of Médecins du monde: "How can you not be traumatized when you have seen your father and mother massacred in front of you? When you have been found in a pit, among the corpses? When you have been discovered under her mother's body, like this premature baby of three weeks, who weighs a kilo 700? How can you not be traumatized in such conditions?".
- Philippe Douste-Blazy, Minister for Health: "I hope that, of course, we will be able to get children and children out of this hell because France is the country of human rights ! We have to do that".
