- As the fighting continues in Rwanda, fighting which according to humanitarian organizations has claimed 500,000 lives, the United Nations Security Council has approved the dispatch of 5,500 peacekeepers to protect the civilian population.
- But the implementation of this resolution is likely to take time. A first contingent of 500 Ghanaian soldiers should however reach the capital Kigali in a few weeks.
