Abstract
- In Rwanda, the fighting between Hutu and Tutsi is raging. Hundreds of thousands of people have to flee the country in the face of the advance of the rebels of the Patriotic Front.
- It is the most massive and the most important exodus of population ever observed by the officials of the High Commissioner for Refugees. An influx of at least 250,000 Rwandans fleeing war or massacres to Tanzania or Burundi.
- Near the border with Tanzania, the International Committee of the Red Cross believes it can control the situation despite its gravity.
- Despite the difficulties refugees face in neighboring countries too poor to provide aid, Rwandans are fleeing what some no longer hesitate to call genocide.
