Abstract
- In Kigali, Rwanda, Tutsi rebels entered the capital yesterday [April 13]. Result: another day of massacres. And yet a ceasefire could be concluded today under the auspices of the UN.
- With their hands raised in a sign of peace, these 500 members of the Tutsi ethnic group ask for help. But Belgian soldiers came to evacuate 18 foreign nationals who had taken refuge in a hospital in the northern district of Kigali. They have been besieged since the day before by Hutu bands. An evacuation, just an evacuation. And they won't do anything more.
- 20,000 Rwandan Popular Front soldiers entered Kigali. They await the departure of the last foreigners to completely invade the city. Fighting rages around the airport.
- It is not known how many Tutsi have been massacred in recent days. Corpses litter the streets. The Hutu, the ethnic group that makes up the provisional government, fear revenge from the rebels.
- To avoid a new bloodbath and negotiate a ceasefire, the belligerents are meeting today under the aegis of the United Nations. A ceasefire that no one may be able to control: Belgium will repatriate its 440 men there. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, under these conditions, plans to withdraw the 2,500 Blue Helmets from Rwanda.
