Abstract
- French troops who were sent last Saturday [April 9] to Rwanda to evacuate French nationals began their withdrawal today. On the spot in Kigali there is always panic, the fighting continues. Rebel troops have now entered the city.
- It is under the watchful eye of French paratroopers that foreigners leave Kigali. The trucks reach the airport as quickly as possible and on each side of the streets, dozens of corpses are strewn on the ground.
- Since Saturday [April 9], 1,600 people have been evacuated. The embassies are closing one after the other. A white lady: "Soldiers came to my house. They were looking for the Prime Minister's daughter because she lives next door. They absolutely wanted to find her to kill her".
- Behind them the foreigners leave a country delivered to the massacres. The interim government has fled and clashes between the mostly Tutsi rebel forces and the mostly Hutu regular army continue.
- This evening the Tutsi of the Patriotic Front of Rwanda are only waiting for the departure of the French and Belgian troops to take the airport. But some of the rebels have already entered Kigali. This violence has already caused several thousand deaths. Civil war sets in.
- A few Rwandans were able to join France but for the moment the United Nations seem incapable of avoiding civil war.
