Abstract
- Massacres, looting, shelling with heavy weapons: the situation continues to deteriorate in Rwanda. Most Westerners tonight have been evacuated.
- The massacres multiply in Kigali and the corpses litter the streets of the Rwandan capital. A mortar shell fired at a hospital killed 27 people.
- For four days, violent fighting has pitted the Tutsi minority against government troops with a Hutu majority. These clashes between the two main ethnic groups in Rwanda have already caused more than a thousand deaths.
- Today, most Westerners, and in particular the 620 French, have managed to leave Rwanda under the protection of paratroopers. The first 43 of them arrived last night at Roissy airport.
Comment
Images of the machete massacre taken by the British cameraman Nick Hughes from the French school of Kigali are inserted at the beginning of the report. They were therefore taken on April 11, while the French soldiers are still occupying this school.
