Abstract
- In Rwanda chaos seized the capital Kigali where yesterday morning [sic], the Rwandan Head of State and that of Burundi were killed in an attack. The situation is visibly out of control.
- So far 10 Belgian blue helmets stationed in the Rwandan capital have been killed. And we learn this morning that about twenty monks and nuns were also massacred on the spot.
- Kigali, a deserted city, the inhabitants are hiding. The rare images of the capital of Rwanda do not show the extremely violent fighting that has been raging for two days.
- 10 Belgian blue helmets were killed after being ill-treated as well as 22 Catholic priests and nuns, all Africans.
- Dejected too, Agathe Uwilingiyimana, the Prime Minister.
- Rwanda, one of the smallest countries in Africa, had been experimenting with a multi-party system for two years. But the two ethnic groups, the Tutsi and the Hutu, have not managed to get along and are currently fighting hand-to-hand in Kigali.
- 1,500 Belgians still live in Rwanda, their former colony, and Brussels is preparing to evacuate them.
- French troops are on high alert. There are still 600 French nationals in Rwanda as well as members of humanitarian organizations, stranded in Kigali, of whom we have no news, such as Pharmaciens sans frontières.
- As for the Rwandan victims, we do not know the number but it would be very high.
