KIGALI, Feb 3 (AFP) - More than 750 people held at Kigali central prison were released on Monday under the terms of a general amnesty, prison sources said.
The Rwanda Justice Ministry indicated that around 5,800 people were eligible for the amnesty decreed on December 15 for all prisoners except those convicted of rape, armed robbery or murder.
Those released Monday included Narcisse Munyambaraga, a former director general of the Rwanda postal service accused of being in league with rebels of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).
Munyambaraga was arrested after an RPF raid in October 1990 and sentenced to death the following December.
